Opportunities to Pray Together

Ecumenical Prayer Breakfast 1^st Saturday of the month at the Vicarage, from 9am, prayer, coffee and croissant. Next is 3rd October. Thursday evening (for ALPHA) at St Thomas at 7:00 pm for an hour. Tuesday afternoons 22^nd, 29^th 2:30 – 3:30pm

Food and Hygiene Bank

The Foodbank Larder box is located in the porch of St Thomas Church.

Thank you to all who have donated recently putting us in a better situation.

Donations of LL milk, tinned meat, fish, veg & beans, sachets rice, toiletries and cleaning products always needed. We have sufficient pasta for the moment.

We also supply 6 families, 4 single households with monthly deliveries of fresh food at a cost £300-£400 a month.

ALPHA Course starting 10th September

ALPHA course is running at St Thomas Church, there will be food a short video and an opportunity to think and chat about the topic for that night in an open and friendly atmosphere, it is free and everyone is welcome. We meet and eat at 7pm, then watch a video and have open discussions after, finishing at 9pm. There is no charge, but it is helpful to know how many are coming for catering purposes. Email me if you would like to know more or to let me know you intend to come at revdavid@parishofchilworth.org.uk

Everyone is welcome but the course is particularly suitable for non-believers, new Christians, or anyone curious about faith. Please do think therefore if you know anyone that falls into these categories and tell them about the course, and ideally perhaps offer to come with them.

Harvest Praise and shared Tea on Sunday 27th September

We end the month with a celebration of God's creation. In the morning, our Benefice Harvest Festival will be held at the Old Saxon Church, Albury.
In the afternoon, we will once again hold our popular Harvest Praise Service at 4 pm in St Mark's, Peaslake, followed by a communal bring-and-share tea in the Old School Room. If you can help please let Ann Currier know currier123@gmail.com
You are warmly invited to join us. If you can contribute food to be shared by all, please leave it in the Old School Room on your way to the Harvest Service.

Vacancy Vision Workshop: -

The PCC’s will meet on Saturday, 26 September 2026, 11am till 2pm in Albury Village Hall to discuss the forthcoming vacancy and consider the next steps in the process.

Shoe Box Appeal: -

It's time to start thinking about the annual Shoebox Appeal. We are again supporting Blythswood’s Shoebox Appeal. Our Appeal last year contributed to the 85,000+ shoeboxes that Blytswood were able to send to eight different countries – Albania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Kosovo, Moldova, Romania, Serbia and Ukraine.

Each box is different, each one personal, each one an expression of your care and kindness towards a stranger in need. Filled with small, practical items such as toiletries, stationery, and clothing, the individually-wrapped boxes have been distributed in schools, hospitals, orphanages and care homes, and to households in very low income communities. There are leaflets at the back of the churches in the Benefice with more information, but you can also check out Blythswood website www.blythswood.org/shoeboxappeal/ where there are lots of tips for packing a shoebox or just contributing to packing a shoebox. For those of you that are keen knitters and crafters, please take note, as they only accept knitted scarves, hats and gloves!!

The deadline to hand in your shoeboxes is Sunday 25 October. Shoeboxes can be left in the lobby of St Peter & St Paul in Albury, St Michael’s in Farley Green, St Thomas in Chilworth, St James’ in Shere and St Mark’s in Peaslake during church opening times.

Tillingbourne Benefice

Tim's Farewell

It is with sadness we bid farewell to Tim after 7 eventful years when he retires as Rector of Shere and the Tillingbourne Benefice. His last Sunday is Sunday 11 October, so his final service is the 10am in St James’, Shere.

His Farewell Gathering will be on Saturday 10 October from 3pm – 5pm in Shere Village Hall. If you are able to help in any way please contact Helen Murray on andyjmurray@aol.com. If you are planning to attend, please let Jo Norfolk know admin@parishofshere.com

Join Tim’s Pilgrimage 2nd October

The week before Tim retires he is doing a pilgrimage from Winchester to Guildford with other members of our own diocese and also from Viborg diocese in Denmark. You are welcome to join in the walking any day, but Tim suggests the final day (Friday Oct 2^nd) might be most appropriate as they are only walking in the morning and doing half the distance of the previous three days (10K instead of 20k). Also there would be the opportunity to join the pilgrims for lunch at the cathedral and even to stay on for a final eucharist which will draw the pilgrimage to an end. The final days walking will begin at Putnam Barn at 9:00 AM with lunch at the cathedral at 12:45 and the Eucharist at 2:00 PM. Email Tim if you would like to join and for more details.
