Tim's Farewell

Tim’s farewells began  in Shere Village Hall with a delicious afternoon tea on Saturday afternoon.  St James’ was packed for Tim’s final service when cake was  cut and bubbly drunk but not before Tim’s last sermon in which he reflected upon the five books which have influenced his ministry and spiritual life.

We wish Tim, Siobhan and their families well as he embarks on a new stage of life’s pilgrimage.

Search for a New Rector

The work is beginning on recruiting our next Rector and as such it would be good to hear your response to the following question:

What 3 qualities are you looking for in a new Rector?

Please send your responses to Wiebke Tickner. wiebke@tillingbournebenefice.org

Vacancy Prayer

God our Father, you have welcomed each one of us in Jesus

and called us to be His body in this place:

Send your Holy Spirit at this time of change and uncertainty,

to fill us with vision, energy, and faithfulness in prayer,

so that we may be true to our calling to bring new life to our communities.

Guide with your heavenly wisdom those who are to choose a new incumbent for the Tillingbourne Benefice.

that he/she may be a wise and gentle shepherd of your people;

ready to serve us with joy, to build us up in faith,

and to lead us by example in loving obedience to your Son, Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Shoe Box Appeal - Deadline 25th October

We are again supporting Blythswood’s Shoebox Appeal. The Appeal last year contributed to the 85,000+ shoeboxes that Blythswood were able to send to  Albania, Bulgaria, Hungary, Kosovo, Moldova, Romania, Serbia and Ukraine.

Each box  should be filled with small, practical items such as toiletries, stationery, and clothing. There are leaflets at the back of the churches in the Benefice with more information, but you can also check out Blythswood website www.blythswood.org/shoeboxappeal/.

The deadline to hand in your shoeboxes is Sunday 25 October. Shoeboxes can be left in the lobby of St Peter & St Paul in Albury, St Michael’s in Farley Green, St Thomas in Chilworth, St James’ in Shere and St Mark’s in Peaslake during church opening times.

Or search Blythwoods Care Shoebox Appeal 2026 on Youtube

Autumn Eco Tip

Leaving a thin layer of leaves across your lawn and flower beds will nourish your soil, while protecting plants against cold weather. You could rake a larger pile into a corner to provide a great habitat for insects.

Bibles for Barnabus

Shere, Peaslake and Gomshall are collecting spare/unwanted bibles to donate to one of their Mission Support partners - Barnabus, a homeless charity in Manchester. They are running a successful programme of Christian outreach at their Beacon Centre and have asked for bibles. Please place any you may have to donate in the plastic box at the back of St James's church, until the end of November.

PCC & APCM Minutes and Documents

Redacted versions of these can now be found at https://www.parishofchilworth.org.uk/pcc/ on the Parish Website and will be uploaded when available.

Milk Bottle Tops

We have been advised that the Springboard charity can no longer accept plastic bottle tops. Until we can find another beneficiary with a local collection point please do not leave them in the back of the church but replace on the empty containers and put in the kerbside recycling. Thank you.

Used Stamps for Oxfam

Please place used stamps in the box at the back of St Thomas' which will stay there all year and be emptied as and when it gets full.
